A book dealer who plundered rare books valued at more than £230,000 from the private library of the Rothschild family was jailed yesterday for 28 months. David Slade, 59, admitted taking more than 30 books belonging to Sir Evelyn de Rothschild after he was hired to catalogue the family's collection. Aylesbury crown court heard Slade stole the volumes over a four-year period from the Rothschilds' Ascott House estate, near Wing, Buckinghamshire. He then sold them at auction. The father of two, from Bradley Stoke, Gloucestershire, had pleaded guilty to theft at an earlier hearing. PA
