Arts, Briefly: SAG Board Member Apologizes to Actors

A Screen Actors Guild board member apologized Friday for circulating an e-mail message critical of actors who oppose the authorization of a strike, Variety reported. The board member, Frances Fisher, right, had forwarded an anonymous message suggesting that guild members withhold their votes in the Screen Actors Guild Awards for nominees who have publicly stood against a potential strike. Ms. Fisher said in a statement that she had sent the message “to alert my private e-mail list of opinions and feelings that were circulating,” according to Variety. She also apologized to the actors Alec Baldwin, Josh Brolin, Steve Carell, Sally Field, Michael C. Hall, Susan Sarandon, Tony Shalhoub and Kevin Spacey , and added that “artistic merit” should be the only criterion for the awards.
